*Apr 10, 2020 Any Savage firearms constructed after 1968 should have a serial number, but many older model weapons may still prove difficult to look up. The gun manufacturer’s web site does not contain serial information for any guns created prior to 1995.

Savage started using the serial number letter prefix to signify their compliance with the Gun Control Act (GCA) of 1968 and differentiate their firearms that were made before (no letter prefix) and after (with prefix) the GCA went into effect on October 22, 1968. The ’F’ prefix range is broken up into two groups.
